  • Negotiations

Meal time at home is always a battle of wills; in one corner is me, myself and I, and the other.. my miniature schnauzer Sarah.  You would think that 3 vs. 1 is an unfair challenge..

    Sarah @ Lunch

TOO BLOODY RITE.. when you have a face like this staring up at you.. you always loose.. I tell my friends that I feel like I'm a sub-leter in my own apartment!

On a side note.. caught an old 80's flick at a make-shift drive in theatre last nite next to the Raffles Hospital; took me back to the good old days when drive in movies were an adventure for us kids and a chance to get all hot and heavy with your significant other (for the adults).  Thanks to the guys from MovieMob for putting this together!

  • Braised....

I guess you wouldn't quite call this an ordinary Sunday for yours truly.  After a early morning game of tennis I woke the Chili Padi for a surprise outing; little did I know that she'd already kinda guessed where we were going to celebrate our 'special day'.  It's funny but our lives both seem to revolve around food.. suppose you can say it's our 'glue'

After mulling about the house for while we donned our helmets and took a quick scooter ride out to Vivo City; first time I've ridden the scooter out so far totally loved it!  Quickly ran inside bought our tickets to Sentosa and enjoy our short little monorail ride across the water, through the construction site that will be the first Integrated Resort (to us normal people we call it a CASINO) to Palawan Station @ Sentosa.  Where were we going?  If you have not quite worked that out yet we were going to Braise @ Palawan Beach.

Braise - Getting There & What's on the Menu

Up until now I wasn't too sure whether the travel out to Sentosa, mingling with the tourists was going to be such a good idea, but after having a read of Mae's birthday bash there I was sold.  So there we were at Palawan station with no real idea of where the place was; boarded a tram what winds it's way down the beach and volla we spotted it where funnily enough the old old monorail station use to be.

A quick bound up the stairs and we were greeted by the biggest metal door I'd ever seen.. for a moment I thought the place was closed as there was no one at the main desk; that and the fact that we were already 15 mins late from our original booking time!  Before I go on I have to say the folks at Braise give exceptional service.. so much so I wrote in the next day to compliment them; something which I have hardly done since coming to Singapore.  Anyways enough about that.. after going through the Brunch menu we ordered our stuff and waited.. what happened next was just a blur!

    Braise - What's for Breakfast-

Food, food, food, it didn't stop coming, the entrees were a meal all on their own.. I really cannot stop talking about how nice the food was and the way it was all presented, that and the nice clean crisp surroundings of the restaruant and the exceptional service just made the day great, being there with the Chili Padi was really the icing on the cake.. we both managed to eat our way through all the entree dishes only then to eat our actual breakfast of egg and pancakes.. all throughout we were savouring every bite / morsel.. and a "shit you gotta try this.." in between each bite.

    Braise - And Finally Lunch

Somehow we managed to fit it all in and then we realised we still had our mains and deserts to follow.. I really didn't think we could fit it all in but somehow (maybe because of all the training from Sydney and Hong Kong) we managed to compress it all in without feeling sick.. that's the problem with good food.. you eat and eat and eat then all of a sudden you realise you've eaten for a team of 40!

It was just a fantastic day out; good food, exceptional service and the best-ous company a boy-friend could wish for.. does life really get any better than this?

  • Hazy Weather..

Past few weeks have been rather 'Hazy' here in Singapore; thanks mostly to the Slash and Burn farming techniques from farmers in Sumatra (Indonesia). While the air quality is far from 'ideal' the haze has presented a few rare opportunities for some photos, I took these the other week while waiting to catch 'The Ugly Truth' at the cinemas with the Chili Padi and some friends.

    Afternoon Sunset

I must say the movie was rather entertaining and to some levels quite true towards how a guy thinks and his attitude towards dating women. I began to take a long hard look at myself and say "hey I used to be like that" (to some regard) one's attitude and situational behavior is shaped by one's prior experiences (good and bad alike). Why is it we always tend to carry emotional baggage with us?

    The Ugly Truth

Many thanks to Simon too for the traditional 'old school' moon cakes that were given to all of us prior to the movie.. as they say they never make them as good as they used to!

  • A few Nites in Bangkok (Part 3.. almost done!)

Day 3 - Recovery of Sorts
Well it had to happen.. my friends hit the wall from well too much partying.. one of them lay dead in the room until 12+ while the others.. I managed to rustle out of bed at an ungodly 11am (well they say ungodly I was up and raring to go at 8!).

Followed the recommendation of one of the travelers and we went walking to have 'authentic' thai brunch.. while the food was alright it really wasn't what I was expecting but I didn't want to be a wet blanket and say anything so I just quietly munched away while my ears were still ringing from the insanely loud music from the Windsor hotel the night before.

With brunch out of the way I decided to let them all go their shopping while I roved around the city again.. I can never get enough of Bangkok, the streets, the people, the food!  I walked all the way over to central world and took a few moments out to sit by the Trimutri and Ganesha shrines and let the world pass me by.  While sitting there I began to think to myself.. these people from all walks of life throng to the Trimutri Shrine to pray for true love... Is love that untrue in this day and age?

After my little moment of self reflection and thoughts of the Chili Padi @ Bintan I made my way into the mall again and wouldn't you know it I stumbled upon a beauty contest looking for the next Thai super model.  For those of you in Singapore who are following the whole Miss Singapore World soap opera of bad English, credit card fraud and.. the girls partaking in the contest I witnessed were far more eloquent and "Miss World" worthy than the afore mentioned.. you want proof.. check this out:

    The Last Supper

Sigh sad to say it was almost time to say goodbye to the land of smiles; but before I bid Thailand goodbye just one more night of liver intoxication

Bangkok Day 3 - Party by Night Grabbed the gang and we headed down to Siam Square where I shared with them another local Thai restaurant favorite of mine Ban Khun Mae.. much to their satisfaction we left with full stomachs all ready for our last real drinking session @ Ekkami/Thonglor: Curve.

I must say I was quite surprised to find that the crowd that the club was not as packed that Sunday as it usually is.. on my last trip over there my friend and I were at Jet and the club was packed at 1am on a Sunday / Monday morning.  As I am sure you can see crowd or no crowd it didn't stop us from drinking and having fun.

Drinks for most of us ended at 1ish (I had to be at the airport at 6am the next morning) but before going back to the hotel to finish packing I just had to squeeze in one more meal before I left.. so my roomie and I made a slight detour to China Town where we feasted on a bowl of noodles!

To those who made the trip over to Bangkok with me.. Thanks.. hope you ate and drank your fill.. 'till the next time I make my way over there.. stay sober and give your livers a break!

  • A few Nites in Bangkok (Part 2)

    Day 2 - Evening.. You'd think we'd learn!

After all the eating we'd been doing you would think that we'd have learned our lesson and stop eating.. NO CHANCE

Bangkok Day 2 - Foodie Heaven Part 2 Took a trip over to Thonglor to a quaint little restaurant recommended to me by my good friend A'or.. I would have to say it was one of the best places I could have eaten in for a long time, sad to say A'or wasn't able to make it, but she was so nice she ordered our dishes over the phone to the waitress.. (I have no idea how much my roaming charges are gonna be but what the heck).  The food she ordered was superb.. I'm honestly salivating just thinking about it all again.. yes it was that good.. cooked the old fashioned Thai way.. I wish I'd spent more time just savouring all the tastes and aromas the food had to offer.. all I could really do was sit there and enjoy my food in silence.. with the ocassional "this is F@#$#@ good" my mind thought of what the Chili Padi was doing and how I wished she could have been there eating all this stuff as well.. at least in a way I know what to order next time I bring her to Bangkok!

So with dinner done and dusted it was off down the road to party!

Bangkok Day 2 - Party-by-Nite All I can say is partying in Bangkok is da bomb.. some say it's gotten boring but I retort and ask.. "Where have you been going to party?"  I ended up going to a place called "Funky Villa" first.  The place is situated a short walk down the road (Soi 10) from our restaurant.. by the time we got there the place was packed and the live band was belting out their Thai tunes.. it was a sea of humanity inside.. met up with our friend Chank who weaved us through the crowd to our table where we met up with two of his friends and another friend a bottle of Johnnie Walker - Red..

We drank 1/2 a bottle of the stuff before we couldn't take it any more and opened up a bottle of Green.. yumo.. in the space of 3 hours we managed to polish off the 1/2 bottle of Red and 2 bottles of Green; with some tequila by the side.. needless to say it was a too much for some and by the time the club closed at 3ish there were only 5 of us left standing and raring to go party somewhere else..

Ended up going to an undergound club "Scratch-dog" @ the Windsor hotel.. and within the space of an hour I found myself the sole survivor of the Singapore contingent left partying with my 3 Thai friends.. drank another two bottles of Black, smoked some shisha drank more, danced more and before I knew it 6am rolled on by.. with the club closing I made my way out.. to the rising sun.. still fine and sober I debated whether breakfast was needed, but thought it better to retire back to the hotel.. my Thai friends were well.. functioning at around 60%.. made sure they could get home ok.. then hailed a cab and made it back to the hotel.. only to find someone's semi digested dinner to greet me in the sink ROFL.. covered it with a wet towel.. showered changed then went to bed and slept for 2 and a bit hours then was up and at it again the very same day!

All in all.. a drunken mess for some.. but a great nite out was had by all!
